Plymouth Square

That is the name of the thoroughbred race horse that won the first race at the Penn National track today.

The above was predicted by TimeformUS, a handicapping site providing racing information free of charge at the moment. That’s just wonderful for me because having been in the hospital and rehabilitation for the first five months of the year, it’s doctor’s orders to get away from the computer and get outside for some exercise.

My plan is to head to Tampa Bay Downs in December when the weather cools down. If I’m lucky, the predictions will remain on point and we’ll get healthy as well as wealthy.

WarmUp

Tomorrow is the second satonstars event.  As a warm up I entered a $5.50 deep stack event with 90 opponents and starting stack of 3,000 instead of 1,500.  I finished 13th for $9.00 after a little over two hours.  The practice was great since I’ve been concentrating on limit hold’em all week.  My areas of weakness that need development are to get a better feel for where I am regarding stack size and opponents.  For example, I raised as first in from the hijack seat with 33 and was reraised by QQ and that was it.  I just need to know if I was a favorite, or would I usually get a call.

Review and evaluate again

The real benefit in this venture is the learning process.  The bigest beneficiary is myself.  Once again we have to back up.  We are now going to specialize in the $10 + $1 Deep Stack Tournament on Poker Stars on Saturday at 12 noon.  These events have 30 minute levels between rounds and the stack size is 5,000 chips.  This is the best poker tournament value on the internet.

EV Hud

Having been away from NLHE for nearly a year, my results while not positive were encouraging.  We played about ten Deep Stack tourneys, in the past few days, and in the last one finished in the money nearly making the final table.

When getting low on ammo, near the end of these events, we need to make the all in “push” move.  There is a calculator in my software that has this feature.  I needed it today but am now ready to study it in earnest and incorporate it into my game.  Ready or not Here We Come.

Concepts

After writing the first concept, I proceeded to get busted early in the tourney.  An early position player raised from early position, I called with AQs.  The flop had an ace and at the end of the hand, I looked at my opponent’s AK.  This prompts me to write the second concept.

Poker Charts

Poker Charts is another tool useful in improving poker results.  I just took a picture of my results today in NLHE Deep Stack events at Full Tilt.  The picture was taken with Snag It-very resonably priced.

I was very pleased with my play but a little disappointed with the results.

Only raise or reraise in limit hold’em

We know that this assumption can correctly be challenged but for now for our puposes at this level of play, we buy into it.

The idea came from an introductory DVD produced by Howard Leaderer.  I freely admit that I am from the old school of poker players and certainly not in Howard’s class.  But when he discussed reading David Sklanky’s primer Hold’em Poker, it took me back.

We are here applying the keep it simple formula.  One idea is to establish an aggressive image.
